Book Review:
Basic Still Live Techniques:
Edited by: Rachel Wolf
COPYRIGHT: 1994
Excellent book. I'm gradually working through it and practicing some of the exercises. I has the basics of still
life covered - everything from setting up a painting, elements that go into it such as composition, lights,
darks, tonal values it even shows you how to paint glass and reflecting objects. I find that every time I open
this book I learn something new. I highly recommend this one for anyone interested in learning to paint still
life. "The guide shows you how to look at your subject with an artist's eye. Whatever your medium, you'll learn to
paint beautiful still lifes that convey your vision. All the basics are here-- from collecting interesting
objects and setting up arrangements to the actual painting techniques from start to finish.
You'll learn from exercises and demonstrations by twenty outstanding artists, including: Jan Kunz, Foster
Caddell, Charles Sovek, Ted Goerschner, Joyce Pike, Doug Dawson, Patricia Moran."
