I found this book provide a lot of information on various artists palettes, composition and the way several artists who work in different mediums approach their work. I highly recommend it for any artist.
"This book examines the work of a number of artists working in all the main mediums plus mixed media to show a variety of ways in which this subject is tackled and to provide an insight into each artist's motivations, inspirations and technique. The work of each artist is examined over eight pages. The first two provide brief background information and show the painting as large as possible so you can really see the detail and texture of the paint. The next two pages concentrate on the composition of the painting, using diagrams to help demonstrate a few main points. This is followed by an examination of the artist's use of colour and then an explanation of his or her technique. As far as possible the artists are allowed to speak for themselves as if they are taking you an a personal tour of their work. Quotes for the Great Masters provide further inspiration and insight into how artists regard their work."
